The Yonsei Experience

My Time at Yonsei as a Public Health Intern
During my time working on global health initiatives, I had the opportunity to contribute to several large-scale projects aimed at improving healthcare systems in underserved communities. As part of the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH)'s Cambodia and Uzbekistan Healthcare Development Projects, I conducted extensive research, reviewing over 50 academic papers and drafting official reports that informed key policy decisions. Additionally, I played a pivotal role in establishing datasets to track and evaluate project impact, ensuring data-driven approaches to healthcare development.
Beyond research, I took an active role in developing and proposing three nationwide outreach programs focused on infectious disease prevention for vulnerable populations, including young children in kindergartens and elderly individuals in care centers. This initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), aimed to create sustainable, community-based solutions for public health challenges.
My work also extended to infection control and patient safety efforts in Tanzania as part of a National Research Foundation-funded project. In this role, I facilitated communication between Tanzanian stakeholders and Korean researchers, ensuring smooth cross-cultural collaboration. I was responsible for drafting Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications to secure ethical approvals and provided simultaneous translation during 13 Tanazanian field visits, enabling real-time discussions and knowledge exchange.
Additionally, I contributed to the evaluation of Vietnamese healthcare initiatives in partnership with KOFIH and EDCF by analyzing and updating datasets, ensuring that data accuracy supported informed decision-making for project improvements.
Through these experiences, I developed a deep understanding of global health systems, cross-cultural project management, and the importance of data-driven solutions in public health policy.
